It was a triple treat for Gunning-based trainer Jodie Lord in the inaugural running of the G3 Ladbrokes Summer Six-Hundy at Gosford on Saturday evening, with 3 of her 4 runners filling the placings in the $25,000 to-the-winner final.
The event was previously held over the 720m at Wentworth Park, known as the G3 Gold Cup and saw four competitive heats run and won last Tuesday. At box rise, Coast Model quickly took control of proceedings, over kennel mate Grim Madara and Lochinvar Lona, with the eventual victor Punter’s Bandit a significant distance from the leader. Turning for home, it was a three-way go to the line with last month’s G2 Gosford Cup winner doing the better, saluting by 0.75 lengths over Grim Madara, with Coast Model in third. The daughter of Good Odds Harada and Book Of Luck carved out the 603m journey in a time of 34.72.
It was Lord’s 25th win for the year from 63 starters, with the team also notching up victories in the Queen of the Coast with star-sprinter She’s A Pearl and Canya Smoke Them also winning over the 603m in his first attempt over the middle-distance.
Punter’s Bandit will now head to The Meadows next Saturday night to contest the G1 Rookie Rebel from box 8, with kennel mate She’s A Pearl lining-up in the G1 Temlee final from box 4.
