NSW chaser Palawa King was victorious in the running of the 2023 G1 National Distance Championship Final at The Meadows on Saturday evening.
Exiting from box five, the son of Feral Franky and Maximum Dos found a heap of trouble, before bursting into clear air approaching the home turn in the 730m, to career away by 2.6 lengths for Forbes-based trainer Jack Smith and owner Errol Hughes.
The $85,000 winner’s cheque takes his career earnings to an impressive $529,715, after he was granted a wildcard entry into the event. It was his 20th career victory from start 44, including 14 minor placings.
Earlier in the day, NSW sprinter Oscar Moses notched up an impressive third placing in a highly competitive National Straight Track Championship Final at Healesville, for trainer Jason Magri and owner Sam Mayer.
Congratulations to connections of all the NSW chasers who participated in the finals, on behalf of the Directors and Staff of the GBOTA.
