Zipping Remus Dominates Vic Peters Classic

The stocks of Zipping Remus continue to rise with NSW’s most exciting young chaser running a personal best when claiming his first Group 1 win in the Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Zipping Remus was the best into stride at box rise but his desire saw the brindle chaser overcome pressure from Be In Touch to take the lead as the field left the home straight the first time.

From there it was a procession with Zipping Remus living up to his name to carve out a slashing 17.71 to the top of the back straight before registering a blistering 29.33 seconds when taking the age restricted feature by eight lengths.

“He only came out average but (watching) from behind he was showing a lot of speed going into the corner, bustling with the two, then he put the shoulder into it and away he went,” trainer John Finn’s assistant Minnie Finn said.

“He’s a very good chaser. When he got around the first corner, he was right.

“I think tonight was a really good win of his.”

Zipping Remus ($1.70 fav) defeated the Alan Proctor-trained Tarawi Tiger ($9.50) with Al’s Entity ($5.50), from the Michelle Sultana kennel, a half-length back in third.

The victory was the eighth from 12 starts for Zipping Remus, a son of the Hallinan family’s Feral Franky x Zipping Tayla mating.

It was also Feral Franky’s third Group 1 success as a sire, just 24 hours after the former top chaser’s first when Palawa King took out the Queensland Cup.
