After scraping into the G1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg semi-finals finishing as the 31st qualifier, Simply Limelight produced an outstanding come-from-behind performance to claim victory in the $300,000 to-the-winner final on Saturday 8th April.
Exiting from box three, the son of Kinloch Brae and Guiding Light took the rails run to take the lead from early pacemaker Baby Jaycee to race away and salute by 1.75 lengths at the finish, in a sizzling time of 29.48. It delivered trainer Peter Rodgers and partner Patricia Breen with their first group one victory and both were elated post-race with the efforts of their boy, also known as “Benny.” Victorian chaser Baby Jaycee lost no admirers in finishing a gallant second with WA start Custard Monelli brave in third.
Simply Limelight’s earnings have now risen to $440,745, with this victory being the 18th of his career.
