NSW GBOTA boss Allan Hilzinger has come out in staunch opposition to the new racing schedule proposed by Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) for the 2023/24 racing season.
On Thursday it was revealed that GRNSW plans to move away from city racing at Wentworth Park on a Wednesday night and instead conduct midweek metro racing at Richmond.
Given the loss of the Wednesday night metro timeslot, GRNSW plans to assign Wentworth Park with 52 dates in the Sunday twilight slot, albeit at lower TAB level prize money.
“In initial meetings, the GBOTA discussed and in principle were supportive of trialling Sunday racing at Wentworth Park and also proposed prizemoney reallocation for Wentworth Park meetings, emphasizing the word reallocation.
“However those discussions would have seen overall Wentworth Park total prizemoney levels maintained and the high likelihood of further contributions to prizemoney coming from GBOTA.
“In the past 12 months, the GBOTA has contributed $650,000 in additional prizemoney outside of what GRNSW provides.
“The GBOTA has an already planned meeting with GRNSW CEO Rob Macaulay today (Friday) and this important topic will be at the top of the list for discussion.”
