The NSW G.B.O.T.A shares its deepest concerns about the incident of animal cruelty recently aired in South Australia.
As a body representing greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers we have zero tolerance for the mistreatment of animals and are appalled at the media footage and reports.
Our members in NSW, are diverse and spread across the state, but we are all committed to the highest standards of animal welfare and will continue to work closely with the Greyhound Welfare Integrity Commission to stamp out mistreatment.
Animal cruelty is morally wrong and also illegal. Such behaviour causes unnecessary suffering and harm to innocent creatures, who cannot speak for themselves. It is essential to promote empathy, compassion, and respect towards all animals and advocate for their welfare.
Our industry will only survive with these key principles at the forefront of everything we do.
Over the past six years, the Greyhound Industry in New South Wales has undergone significant reforms, and our members have played a crucial role in bringing about this positive change. We commend our law-abiding participants for their efforts in shaping the future of the industry.
Unfortunately, the events in SA have led to reports that our NSW members are being targeted with vile abuse on social media. This sort of behaviour is wrong and extremely hurtful to our members, who deeply care for their dogs. We urge this unwarranted abuse to stop and ask our members to take great care and refrain from responding online.
Given the abuse members have received, we encourage everyone to support each other and to reach out for any support you need. If anyone is struggling, please don’t hesitate to contact the participant support line at 1800 955 670 or call me in the office directly on 02 9649 7166.
Of course, if any member is aware of any misconduct and abuse of our animals, we urge them to contact the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission on 13 49 42 or report via their online portal at Whispli, so that the strongest action can be taken.
Working together, we can ensure the highest standards of welfare for animals, stamp out any mistreatment and ensure the future of our industry. I thank you for your support and great commitment to our animals.
Yours Sincerely,
Daniel Weizman
