Two weeks and two 10-hour round trips from Springside, near Orange, to Maitland, were certainly justified for trainer, Wes Mcdonald and his family, with Fusion Mint an all-the-way winner in the G2 East Maitland Bowling Club Gold Cup final.
Narrowly defeated in her heat the Thursday prior by, You Never Lose, the daughter of Hooked On Scotch and Midnight Romba, produced a brilliant all-the-way display from box two over the 450m, to claim victory in a sizzling time of 24.81. She was only the second female to have won the event since 2010, providing her trainer with his first group race win. All of those pats from Wes’ daughter, Chelsea, to keep her relaxed to and from the track, certainly paid off.
