He boasts a very renowned ownership group, including the likes of thoroughbred trainer, Mitch Beer and Rugby League star, Ryan Papenhuyzen, but last Friday night at Bulli was all about Nangar Larry, producing a brilliant come-from-behind effort to take out the G2 Ladbrokes Bulli Gold Cup Final.
G2 Maitland Cup victor, Nangar Jim, was first away when the lids flew from box six, sizzling along to take the early lead. Nangar Larry was drawn on his immediate outside and stuck with the Joe Mcfadyen-trained chaser as the field turned for home. The son of Shima Shine and Nangar Diva produced a brilliant surge in the home straight to claim victory by a length in wet conditions. Nangar Jim certainly lost no admirers, with a brave effort to go down by a neck in the end, with Victorian runner, Swindled for Keith Hellmuth, only a further neck away in third. The Andy Lord-prepared chaser carved out the 472m journey in a time of 26.35, in recording his 17th win from start 35.
It’s expected several of these chasers will now head towards the G3 Temora Cup series, with heats to be run on Sunday 3rd March, 2024 over 457m.
