Sydney, 11th September – Greyhound Racing New South Wales recently announced the relocation of racing events to Friday nights at the renowned Wentworth Park. In response to this thrilling development, the New South Wales Greyhound Breeders Owners Trainers Association (NSW GBOTA) is proud to unveil a series of exciting new initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience for participants and spectators alike.
Among the prominent changes is an increase in travel assistance for trainers, with the NSW GBOTA now offering up an additional $40 per runner exclusively on Friday nights to help offset toll expenses. This initiative reflects the NSW GBOTA’s commitment to supporting trainers and ensuring their seamless participation at Wentworth Park. Chairman of NSW GBOTA, Geoff Rose, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “As the industry representative, we understand the challenges faced by trainers and want to provide them with assistance while encouraging their active participation at Wentworth Park.”
In addition to the increased travel assistance, Track Manager Donny Micallef is dedicated to diversifying the racing schedule to accommodate all classes of dogs, providing every greyhound with an opportunity to compete at this iconic city venue. Mr. Micallef shared his vision, saying, “I will collaborate with Track Managers across the state to allow regional greyhounds to qualify for finals at Wentworth Park from their home tracks. Furthermore, we are introducing heats and finals exclusively for bitches and dogs, non-metropolitan winners, and races exclusively for our female trainers and up and young up and coming trainers.”
Friday nights at Wentworth Park are now an even more enticing time slot, with the Ladbrokes sports bar in full swing, the Terrace open for patrons, and the approach of summer adding to the excitement. As an added bonus, every trainer will receive a complimentary meal from the sports bar on Friday nights. Chairman Rose emphasised this gesture, stating, “We understand that trainers have been working tirelessly all day, so we want to provide them with a wholesome meal they can sit down and enjoy.”
For families attending the event, there will be entertainment for both kids and adults, promising a fun-filled evening for everyone.
The Friday Night Racing at Wentworth Park, with its new enhancements and offerings, promises to be an exhilarating experience for all involved. The NSW GBOTA invites trainers, participants, and greyhound racing enthusiasts to join in the excitement and be part of this fantastic racing journey.
